Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about strengthening global solidarity at the G7 summit. On Wednesday, he noted that the ongoing crisis in West Asia is disrupting fuel, fertilizer, and food supply chains—disruptions that will have a long-term impact on the Global South. Addressing an outreach session on the theme of “balanced, shared, and sustainable economic growth” at the G7 summit held in Évian, France, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to bolster international solidarity.
Referring to his address on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi stated that the true question regarding development is not merely the size of the GDP, but rather for whom, with whom, and in what direction development is taking place. He remarked that India’s development journey is rooted in inclusivity, scale, and democratic empowerment, driven by the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, aur Sabka Prayas” (Together with all, Development for all, Trust of all, and Effort of all). He added that this approach is reflected in India’s G20 presidency and initiatives such as the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
The Prime Minister observed that global supply chains are being affected by the West Asia crisis and stressed that vulnerable nations should not have to bear the burden of these shocks alone. He called upon international financial institutions to develop robust support mechanisms to shield developing nations from economic shocks.
He also noted that while many countries are grappling with aging populations, India and nations of the Global South possess a vast reservoir of young talent and skills. To leverage this balance, he highlighted the need for a “Global Skills Partnership.” Prime Minister Modi suggested that an initiative like the “International Mobilization Partnership for Accelerating Connectivity and Trade” (IMPCAT)—combining G7 capital, India’s talent, and the participation of Global South nations—could also be considered. Ahead of the session, Prime Minister Modi met with several global leaders, including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Brazilian President Lula da Silva, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
