Manohar Lal, Carsten Schneider Hold Key Talks on Energy Security and Carbon Markets

On September 2, 2026, Union Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Shri Manohar Lal held a bilateral meeting in New Delhi with Germany’s Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, Shri Karsten Schneider.

During the meeting, the ongoing cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector was comprehensively reviewed. Discussions were also held on imparting fresh momentum to energy cooperation between India and Germany, further strengthening their partnership, and exploring new avenues for future collaboration.

The India-Germany bilateral meeting in New Delhi discussed a number of key issues, including energy security, electrification, low-carbon development, carbon markets, and diversification of supply chains.

The two sides reviewed ongoing cooperation in the energy sector, exchanged views on various initiatives, and considered new opportunities to further strengthen bilateral cooperation. The ministers stated that energy security, low-carbon development, and a robust trade system are deeply interconnected, and cooperation in these areas can advance the shared interests of both countries.

Describing energy security, low-carbon development, and carbon markets as interconnected areas, both ministers stated that India-Germany cooperation in these sectors could be mutually reinforcing. They reiterated their shared commitment to a secure, affordable, and sustainable energy future and emphasized the need to continue their ongoing dialogue and cooperation in the coming months. This meeting took place at a time when India and Germany have recently marked 75 years of diplomatic relations and 25 years of strategic partnership.
