India’s Net Direct Tax Revenue Surges 23% To 8.11 Lakh Crore

India’s net direct tax collection rose by 23.09 percent to ₹8.11 lakh crore in the current fiscal year up to August 10. In the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, the collection stood at ₹6.59 lakh crore. This information was revealed in data released by the government on Tuesday.

During this period, gross direct tax collection increased by 19.75 percent to ₹9.55 lakh crore. Meanwhile, the amount of refunds issued stood at ₹1.43 lakh crore, which is 3.79 percent higher than in the same period last year.

Total direct tax collection (before refunds) recorded an increase of ₹1.57 lakh crore up to August 10. In the same period last year, it was ₹7.97 lakh crore.

According to the data, net corporate tax collection rose to ₹2.70 lakh crore, up from ₹2.26 lakh crore in the previous year. Meanwhile, net non-corporate tax collection increased from ₹4.11 lakh crore to ₹5.07 lakh crore.

Net collection from Securities Transaction Tax (STT) also rose to ₹33,823.74 crore, compared to ₹22,354.31 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Gross corporate tax collection increased from ₹3.32 lakh crore to ₹3.80 lakh crore. Similarly, gross non-corporate tax collection rose from ₹4.43 lakh crore to ₹5.41 lakh crore.

Gross collection from other taxes stood at ₹14.33 crore, whereas it was ₹282.96 crore in the same period of the previous year.

These figures include taxes paid by companies as well as by individuals, Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs), firms, Associations of Persons (AOPs), local authorities, and other artificial juridical entities. Meanwhile, the country’s fiscal deficit for the April-June quarter is estimated at ₹3.1 lakh crore, representing 18.2 percent of the budget estimate for the entire fiscal year. In the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, it stood at ₹2.8 lakh crore.

For the 2026-27 fiscal year, the central government has projected a fiscal deficit of ₹16.96 lakh crore, which is 4.3 percent of the country’s GDP. This aligns with the targeted gradual reduction towards fiscal consolidation.

Net tax receipts rose from ₹5.4 lakh crore to ₹6.4 lakh crore during the April-June quarter. This reflects sustained strength in direct and indirect tax collections, despite global economic uncertainties.
